Located in a wetlands environment at the mouth of the Fraser River on Westham Island, this spot is ideal for bird watching. More than 250 species of migratory birds including herons, peregrine falcons, bald eagles, swans, geese and ducks can be seen. In November, the Snow Goose Festival is held as hundreds of birds stop for a rest on their long journey south.

In its original form, the Greater Vancouver Zoo was a privately owned enterprise called the Vancouver Game Farm, which opened in 1970. Today, this world-class zoo exhibits an assortment of animals, from big cats and bears to moose and macaws, pythons and peacocks to spider monkeys and snapping turtles. Highlights of a visit will include a ride on the Safari Express miniature train or a narrated tour on the North American Wilds Safari Bus, and lion and tiger feedings (May-Oct Daily 1pm).

This five-acre municipal park farm, located on the North Shore of Vancouver, is a favorite of children. The farm has more than 200 domesticated animals and birds, including cows, horses, pigs, ponies, sheep, donkeys and chickens. The farm's mission is to provide a pleasant and unique rural experience. Children can pet the animals, take part in milking demonstrations, and participate in such special events as the spring Sheep Fair, Farm Fair, Pumpkins Day in the fall, and Country Christmas in December.
